On 20 December 2023, H.E. Mr. Sira Swangsilpa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the State of Qatar, participated in a tree-planting initiative held at the Old Airport Park. He was accompanied by fellow Ambassadors and diplomatic representatives from ASEAN member states in Qatar, including Mr. Jassim Al Buainain, Acting Director of Parks for the Doha Municipality. During this event, the Ambassadors and ASEAN diplomatic corps collectively planted “Sidra trees”, the national tree of Qatar.

This initiative was coordinated by the ASEAN Committee in Doha, in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality. The primary objective was to contribute to Qatar’s ambitious “Ten Million Trees Initiative,” aimed at expanding green spaces throughout the country. The collaboration between the ASEAN Committee in Doha and local authorities highlights the importance of international cooperation in promoting sustainable development, fostering environmental sustainability, and enhancing the overall well-being of the people and communities in Qatar.
