On 7 May 2024, H.E. Mr. Sira Swangsilpa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the State of Qatar, and Embassy officials, received H.E. Mr. Aroon Boonchom, Sheikhul Islam of the Kingdom of Thailand and Dr. Muhammadamin Chenu, Advisor to the Secretary General of the Central Islamic Council of Thailand, during their visit to Qatar to attend the 15th Doha Conference on Interfaith Dialogue (DCID) from 7 – 8 May 2024. Both sides exchanged views on overall bilateral relations between Thailand and Qatar, and ways to strengthen constructive cooperation between religious organizations of Thailand and Qatar. Moreover, on 8 May 2024, H.E. Sheikhul Islam of the Kingdom of Thailand and representative of the Embassy met with executives from Qatar Charity to strengthen networks for charity activities in Thailand. This visit marks the first visit by the Sheikhul Islam of the Kingdom of Thailand to the State of Qatar.
Established in 2003, the DCID is an international forum on religious studies and a public platform for followers of Islam, Christianity and Judaism to promote constructive dialogue and exchange views on contemporary issues, such as human rights, roles of youth, hate speech and crisis management. This year, the 15th DCID was held under the theme “Family Structure in Light of Changing World: Religious Perspective,” with specific focus on understanding and engaging the challenges faced by religious and family institutions. On 7 May 2024, H.E. the Ambassador attended the opening ceremony of the conference, together with researchers and religious scholars from more than 40 countries participating in the event.
