On 20 December 2023, the Royal Thai Embassy in Doha and the Thai Trade Center Tehran (Thailand’s focal point for trade-related matters between Thailand and Qatar) organized a briefing session to introduce the Thai Select Award for 2024. The Thai Select Award is a certification mark awarded by the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand to guarantee the authenticity and quality of Thai food products and Thai restaurants both in Thailand and overseas. The event was attended by representatives from 11 Thai restaurants in Doha.
The Thai Select Award will be launched for the first time in Qatar in 2024, presenting a significant opportunity for Thai restaurant entrepreneurs. They play an crucial role as cultural ambassadors, showcasing the positive images of Thailand and contributing to Thailand’s soft power by presenting quality Thai cuisine and culture to both Qataris and expatriates in Qatar. The Royal Thai Government has been granting the Thai Select Award to selected Thai restaurants worldwide for over 20 years, and currently, there are around 1,300 Thai Select restaurants across the globe. This initiative by the Royal Thai Embassy aligns with the Royal Thai Government’s policy and the guidelines set forth by the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs during the 2023 Meeting of Thai Ambassadors and Consuls-General, which emphasizes the importance of close collaboration between government authorities and Thai private sectors abroad, forming what is known as “Team Thailand Plus”.
