On 7 December 2023, H.E. Mr. Sira Swangsilpa, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the State of Qatar, hosted a luncheon for Thailand’s national weightlifting team led by Mr. Somsak Prangthong, the Vice President of Thai Amateur Weightlifting Association and the team manager, at the Ambassador’s residence. The Thai weightlifters are competing in the 2023 IWF Grand Prix II between 4 – 14 December 2023, at the Aspire Ladies Sport Hall in Doha to accumulate points for the Olympic Games in 2024.

Subsequently, on 8 December 2023, H.E. the Ambassador, along with his family, embassy officials, and Thai residents in Qatar, cheered on the Thai athlete in the Women's 59kg category of 2023 IWF Grand Prix II. In this occasion, H.E. the Ambassador also had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Mohammad Hassan Jalood Al-Shammari, the President of the International Weightlifting Federation.

The Royal Thai Embassy congratulates Ms. Surodchana Khambao, who won 2 silver medals and 1 gold medal in the Women's 55kg category, and Mr. Weeraphon Wichuma, who won 1 gold medal and 1 silver medal in the Men's 73kg category. The Royal Thai Embassy wishes the Thai weightlifting team the best of luck for future competitions.
