Royal Thai Embassy in Doha Discussed Ways to Promote and Protect the Rights and Benefits of Thai Workers in Qatar

On 17 September 2023, H.E. Mr. Sira Swangsilpa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the State of Qatar, hosted a Working Lunch for Mrs. Palida Ruamkham, Minister Counsellor (Labour Affairs) at the Royal Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi (which also has accreditation covering the State of Qatar), and her delegation during their visit from 16 – 18 September 2023. During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on ways to promote and protect the rights and benefits of Thai workers in Qatar. H.E. Ambassador also invited Ms. Thanyanat Thanawongsudikul, Vice President (Business) at Elite Drilling Co., Ltd., a Thai oil drilling company in Qatar employing over 40 Thai workers, to share her experiences related to various issues concerning Thai workers in Qatar. Additionally, Minister Counsellor Ruamkham held discussions with Mr. Kittithep Devahastin, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy and Embassy officials, covering topics such as legal frameworks for foreign labourers working in Qatar, the labor recruitment process, and common issues faced by Thai workers in Qatar.

The Royal Thai Embassy stresses the importance of promoting and safeguarding the rights and well-being of Thai labours, ensuring their compliance with both Thai and Qatari laws. This visit underscores the Embassy's commitment to fostering collaborative efforts among the relevant Thai agencies responsible for Qatar.
