ASEAN Committee in Doha (ACD) Celebrates 53rd Anniversary of ASEAN (ASEAN Day)

On 6 September 2020 at 10.00 hrs., H.E. Mr. Nathapol Khantahiran, Ambassador of Thailand to the State of Qatar, attended the Celebration of the 53rd Anniversary of ASEAN (ASEAN Day 2020) held at the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Doha. The ceremony was attended by H.E. Ambassador Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro, Director of Department of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, together with the ASEAN Committee in Doha (ACD) comprising the seven Embassies, namely Embassies of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysian, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The highlight of the event was the hoisting of the ASEAN Flag, accompanied by the playing of the ASEAN Anthem titled "The ASEAN Way." On this occasion, H.E. Mr. Mohamed Bahrin Abu Bakar, Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to the State of Qatar, as Chairman of the ACD delivered a speech by highlighting regional cooperation under the theme "Cohesive and Responsive" which is the central theme of ASEAN under the Chairmanship of Vietnam in 2020, and cohesive efforts in mitigating the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as a holistic approach in recovering regional economy. In his speech, the Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam also stated that the Embassies valued the role and efforts of the Government of the State of Qatar and Qatar Airways in rendering assistance to bring people returning home amidst the pandemic.
