President of the National Assembly and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand Visits Qatar Strengthening Thailand–Qatar Relations and Advancing Parliamentary Cooperation on the Occasion of the 45th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations

From 22–25 November 2025, H.E. Mr. Sira Swangsilpa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the State of Qatar, welcomed H.E. Mr. Wanmuhamadnoor Matha, President of the National Assembly and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand, and his parliamentary delegation comprising Hon. Mr. Sugano Matha, Hon. Mr. Sommut Benjalak, Hon. Mr. Kamonsak Leewamoh, and senior officials from the Secretariat of the House of Representatives, on the occasion of their official visit to Qatar.

On 23 November 2025, the President of the National Assembly and his delegation met with H.E. Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al-Sulaiti, Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, at the Shura Council. The President reaffirmed the long-standing and warm relations between Thailand and Qatar and expressed Thailand’s commitment to strengthening cooperation at the bilateral, regional, and multilateral levels, including within the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). He also noted the planned visit of the Thailand–Qatar Parliamentary Friendship Group to Qatar in December 2025 to further deepen parliamentary ties. H.E. Dr. Al-Sulaiti underscored the importance of parliamentary cooperation and highlighted the establishment of the Qatar–Asia Parliamentary Friendship Group as a key mechanism to advance collaboration with Thailand. She also commended Thailand’s strengths in education, tourism, and medical and wellness services, which remain popular among Qatari nationals, as well as Thailand’s constructive engagement within the IPU. Following the meeting, the Deputy Speaker guided the Thai delegation on a tour of the Shura Council chamber.

On 24 November 2025, the President of the National Assembly and his delegation met with H.E. Mr. Ghanem bin Shaheen bin Ghanem Al Ghanim, Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs. During the meeting, the President expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s support for education, religious affairs, and the welfare of people in Qatar and Muslim communities worldwide. He also acknowledged the Ministry’s scholarship programmes for Thai students in Qatar and Qatar’s longstanding support for Fatoni University in Pattani Province. The President also conveyed condolences regarding the attack in Doha in September 2025 and reaffirmed Thailand’s condemnation of such acts, while commending Qatar’s mediation efforts and humanitarian assistance that contributed to the release of all Thai hostages. H.E. Al Ghanim reaffirmed Qatar’s readiness to continue working with Thailand to promote peace, security, and global stability. He reiterated the Ministry’s support for Thai students and for Fatoni University, and praised Thailand’s public health system, good governance, and humanitarian assistance to Rohingya refugees.

H.E. Ambassador also accompanied the President of the National Assembly and his delegation on visits to key cultural and educational institutions in Qatar, including Education City Mosque, Qatar National Library, the Museum of Islamic Art, and the National Museum of Qatar. In addition, the delegation also visited a Thailand Exhibition at Qatar Travel Mart (QTM) 2025, which highlighted Thailand’s world-renowned medical and wellness tourism. H.E. Ambassador and his spouse also hosted an official luncheon in honour of the Thai delegation.

The visit of H.E. Mr. Wanmuhamadnoor Matha reaffirms Thailand’s commitment to further strengthening its partnership with Qatar and advancing cooperation across all sectors. The Royal Thai Embassy in Doha will continue to drive forward key initiatives to deepen Thailand–Qatar relations for the mutual benefit of both nations and their peoples.
