On 23 August 2022, H.E. Nathapol Khantahiran, Ambassador of Thailand to the State of Qatar, attended the ASEAN Day Celebration 2022 at Holiday Villa Hotel in Doha. The event was presided over by H.E. Zamshari Shaharan, Ambassador of Malaysia and Chairperson of the ASEAN Committee in Doha (ACD), with participation of H.E. Ambassador Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro, Chief of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, as the guest of honour, along with the ACD Heads of Missions (Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam). At the celebration, the Ambassador of Malaysia highlighted that the event was a double celebration - the 55th Anniversary of ASEAN and Qatar’s successful accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia held recently in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The ACD Chair also underlined the robust trade between ASEAN and Qatar which amounts to around USD 10 billion annually, with Singapore and Thailand among Qatar’s top trading partners. Among other things, potential areas of cooperation between Qatar and ASEAN are, for example, digital infrastructure, industrial automation, robotics, energy, Islamic finance, tourism, digital manufacturing, and halal industry.
