On 2 March 2016, General Sirichai Distakul, Thailand Minister of Labour, as well as the delegation from the Ministry of Labour of Thailand and Thailand Labour Office in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, paid a visit to the State of Qatar in order to promote the maintaining and expansion of Thai labour market in Qatar. In this occasion, General Sirichai Distakul had paid a courtesy call on H.E. Dr. Issa Saad Al-Jafali  Al-Nuaimi, Minister of Administrative Development and Labour and Social Affairs of the State of Qatar , to have a discussion on an importing of labour from Thailand to Qatar. H.E. Dr. Issa Saad Al-Jafali Al-Nuaimi reiterated that “Qatar is extremely proud of Thai nationals’ contribution to Qatar’s development and growth. As we move towards realizing Qatar National Vision 2030, we look forward to welcoming more highly skilled individuals from Thailand over the coming years.”  After meeting with H.E. Dr. Issa Saad Al-Jafali  Al-Nuaimi, General Sirichai Distakul also paid a visit to Wen Qatar Company to meet with Thai labour who working with the Company. In an evening, Mr. Thirapath Mongkolnavin, Charge d'Affaires, hosted a reception dinner for General Sirichai Distakul and his delegation as well as representatives of Qatar-based construction companies. This provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on the Thai national skilled workers’ employment opportunity in Qatar.
