On 13 - 16 December 2016, Mr. Yudhasartra Khundhonwiwat, Assistant Vice President, and his officer from the Betagro Group, one of Thailand’s leading agro-food industry sector, visited the State of Qatar and met with leading food importers and distribution companies to explore possibilities of exporting chicken products from Thailand to the State of Qatar. 

During the visit, H.E. Mr. Soonthorn Chaiyindeepum, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand, discussed and hosted dinner for the group. The Embassy also arranged for them to meet with Qatar National Import & Export Company, one of the biggest food importers and distributors in the State of Qatar. 

Since the ban on importation of poultry products from Thailand was imposed in July 2015 due to Avian Influenza concerns, the Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand have been working closely on this issue and negotiating with authorities concerned both in Thailand and the State of Qatar to have the ban lifted. Thai poultry products will return to the market again after the Embassy received a confirmation of the Qatari side’s decision to lift the said ban in November 2016.
