From 14 – 15 July 2026, the Royal Thai Embassy in Doha welcomed H.E. Mr. Jeseth Thaiseth, Deputy Minister of Interior, who was appointed by the Prime Minister as the Special Envoy of the Royal Thai Government, to convey condolences on the passing of H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Father Amir of the State of Qatar, on behalf of the Royal Thai Government and the Thai people. H.E. Thaiseth was accompanied by Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, together with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand.

On 15 July 2026, H.E. the Deputy Minister of Interior as the Special Envoy of the Royal Thai Government, had an audience with H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, to convey the condolences of the Royal Thai Government and the Thai people on the passing of the Father Amir.

During the visit, the delegation also had discussions with a representative from the Education City Mosque, located within Hamad Bin Khalifa University in Education City, under the Qatar Foundation. The delegation was briefed on the institution's role in advancing education, research, and human development, reflecting the Father Amir's enduring vision and legacy in laying the foundations of modern Qatar. The delegation later visited the Royal Thai Embassy, where it received a briefing on the Embassy’s consular services. On this occasion, H.E. the Special Envoy conveyed his warm regards and best wishes to the Thai community residing in Qatar amid the current regional security situation.

H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani served as Amir of the State of Qatar from 1995 – 2013 and is widely regarded as the architect of modern Qatar. Through his visionary leadership, he laid the foundations for Qatar’s political, economic, social, and cultural transformation, elevating Qatar to its prominent strategic role in the international community today. H.H.’s historic visits to Bangkok in 1999 and in 2006 remain enduring milestones in the close and longstanding friendship between Thailand and Qatar.
