On 14 September 2023, the Royal Thai Embassy in Doha hosted a seminar on "Thailand's Shariah Compliant Innovation" to share knowledge, best practices, and Thailand's innovations that adhere to Islamic principles. Distinguished speakers included Associate Professor Dr. Winai Dahlan, Founding Director of the Halal Science Center, Chulalongkorn University (HSC), and Dr. Anat Denyingyhot, Assistant Director of HSC.
In his opening remarks, H.E. Sira Swangsilpa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the State of Qatar, emphasized Thailand's unwavering commitment to supporting research and innovation. He highlighted the positive impact of these efforts on the country's development and the enhancement of its people's quality of life, including Thai Muslims. During the seminar, Dr. Dahlan provided valuable insights into the Halal food industry, underscoring the significance of scientific methodologies in the Halal certification process. He also highlighted Thailand’s policies, related developments, and its cutting-edge innovations aimed at ensuring compliance with Shariah principles. Dr. Denyingyhot further demonstrated the groundbreaking "Rapid Test Kit”, a pioneering technology for detecting non-Halal elements in food products, meeting the highest Halal certification standards. The seminar sparked considerable interest, attracting over 30 participants, including representatives from Qatari academic institutions, the diplomatic corps and local media. They actively engaged in in-depth discussions, focusing particularly on the existing challenges within the Halal food industry and the potential for networking and collaboration in their respective countries.
This seminar marks the first endeavour of the Royal Thai Embassy to showcase Thailand's best practices and explore new areas of cooperation opportunities with Qatar. It represents an opportunity for Thailand and Qatar to collaborate in ensuring food security and promoting tangible economic benefits. This initiative aligns with the Thai government's goal of fostering knowledge exchange across various sectors, including science, innovation, and human resource development, while also aligning with Qatar’s National Vision 2030.
The Embassy remains committed to advancing knowledge-sharing and collaboration across science, technology, and innovation sectors. This commitment extends to bilateral and trilateral efforts, aimed at delivering tangible benefits and economic opportunities for both nations.
