On 7 May 2024, H.E. Mr. Sira Swangsilpa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the State of Qatar, presented the first Thai SELECT Awards to representatives of four Thai restaurants in Doha, namely Thai Aroi Restaurant, Jasmine Thai Restaurant, Thai Smile Restaurant, and The Siam Restaurant. This Award presentation was part of the opening ceremony of Thai Halal Food Promotion event at LuLu Hypermarket, D Ring branch. Mr. Trirong Wan-Ar-Ree, Minister Counsellor (Commercial) of Thai Trade Center Tehran, which oversees trade-related matters between Thailand and Qatar, executives from the LuLu Group, and the Spouse of H.E. the Ambassador, were also present during the event.
This initiative, launched for the first time in Doha, presents a great opportunity for Thai restaurant entrepreneurs, who also act as cultural ambassadors, contributing to Thailand’s soft power through authentic Thai cuisine for both Qataris and expatriates in Qatar. The Thai SELECT Award is a certification mark awarded by the Royal Thai Government to guarantee the authenticity and quality of Thai restaurants both in Thailand and overseas. The Royal Thai Government has been granting the Thai SELECT Award to over 1,300 Thai restaurants worldwide for over 20 years.
