Muay Thai Takes Center Stage at World Diabetes Day 2023 Event in Doha

On 10 November 2023, Muay Thai demonstrations, conducted by a team of Thai instructors led by Mr. Wongrawee Sukna, were featured as part of the World Diabetes Day 2023 event, jointly organized by the Qatar Diabetes Association and the Qatar Sports For All Federation in Oxygen Park, Doha. The event aimed to raise awareness about the vital role of exercise in diabetes prevention, showcasing various sports and activities promoting overall health. During the event, H.E. Mr. Sira Swangsilpa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the State of Qatar, delivered a brief remark introducing the Muay Thai demonstration and actively participated in the Muay Thai training session. In this occasion, H.E. Ambassador also met with Prof. Abdul-Badi Abou-Samra, Co-Chair of the National Diabetes Committee of Qatar. In addition, Muay Thai has been included in the physical education curriculum of Qatari government schools, this will have a positive impact on enhancing people-to-people relations between Thailand and Qatar in the long run.

The Qatar Sports For All Federation recognizes Muay Thai as a key sport for promoting health in Qatar, with five Thai instructors currently leading Muay Thai demonstrations under the Federation’s courses. The Royal Thai Embassy expresses its sincere appreciation for  Qatari authorities’ emphasis on Muay Thai, recognizing its significance in promoting both health and cultural awareness in Qatar, contributing to a deeper understanding of Thai culture and identity.
