On 21 September 2026, H.E. Ms. Pensom Lertsitichai, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the State of Qatar, together with officials of the Royal Thai Embassy in Doha, participated in a mangrove conservation activity organised by Zulal Wellness Resort by Chiva-Som on the occasion of World Cleanup Day 2026. The activity was joined by Dr. Aspa Chatziefthimiou, Lead Scientist of the Mangrove Restoration Programme at Earthna Center for a Sustainable Future, and staff members of Zulal Wellness Resort. The programme included a visit to a mangrove seedling nursery, the removal of seaweed covering the mangrove trees which hinders their growth, and mangrove planting in the mangrove reserve area of Al Ruwais.

The activity builds upon the Embassy’s continued efforts to promote Thailand–Qatar cooperation in mangrove conservation and restoration and sustainable development. During 2025–2026, the Embassy, in cooperation with Earthna, Qatar University and relevant Thai and Qatari agencies, organised academic seminars, knowledge exchanges and reciprocal visits in both Qatar and Thailand. These included two academic seminars in Qatar: “Mangrove Conservation in Qatar: Towards a Practicable Action Plan” in February 2025 and “From Local to Global: Thailand’s Sustainability and Eco-Tourism Journeys” at the Earthna Summit 2025 in April 2025. In July 2026, a delegation of academics from Qatar University also visited Thailand to learn about mangrove conservation and environmental initiatives. In addition, in May 2025, the Royal Thai Embassy, in collaboration with Zulal Wellness Resort by Chiva-Som, organised a mangrove planting activity with the participation of the ASEAN Committee in Doha. These initiatives further promoted the exchange of knowledge and experience and strengthened cooperation in mangrove restoration and environmental conservation.

The Royal Thai Embassy remains committed to advancing Green Diplomacy and strengthening Thailand–Qatar cooperation on sustainable development, in line with Qatar’s Qatar National Vision 2030 and Third National Development Strategy 2024–2030, as well as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Thailand’s National Economic and Social Development Plan. The Embassy places emphasis on sharing good practices in sustainable development and fostering linkages between local knowledge and future-oriented innovation. Such efforts provide an important foundation for further advancing bilateral relations across other areas and creating tangible economic benefits for both countries.
